Miracle Piano Teaching System Software

One of the engineers at MediaWink has come up with a Piano Discovery System (PDS) fix, enabling users to run the Piano Discovery System software on versions of Windows after Windows 95. Here is how it all came about, in his own words…

A software program for various computer and console systems that teaches the user how to play the piano via a synthesizer keyboard peripheral. The Miracle Piano Teaching System is an educational program from Software Toolworks that teaches users how to play the piano through a keyboard peripheral which was included in the package. Users simply followed the on-screen instructions to learn how to play the piano, tapping keys indicated by the screen. Description of The Miracle Piano Teaching System. Here is the video game “The Miracle Piano Teaching System”! Released in 1992 on Genesis, it's still available and playable with some tinkering. It's an educational game, set in a music and music / rhythm themes. MusicStar Piano Learning System by Reveal. An affordable alternative to those who can't locate a Miracle Piano System and for those with older and newer Windows versions. The manufacturer of these MusicStar music learning system packages is no longer in business but we were able to pick up a shipment of new packages anyway!

Growing up, I used the old DOS based Miracle Piano software, and later the newer Piano Discovery System (PDS) software. More recently I decided to start using the software with my children. The older, DOS based Miracle Piano software was a great innovation in teaching people how to play the piano by presenting lessons as text on the computer screen. Later, the Piano Discovery System came out for the Windows environment, with such improvements over the Miracle Piano software as more songs, video clips of how to play the notes on the piano, and audio instruction that speaks the lessons to you. This was just what my children needed, since they didn’t know how to read. It was also much more natural for me to have the lessons spoken to me, instead of having to read them. Piano Discovery System is the best piano/keyboard teaching software on the planet for children and adults and, last I checked, was available for purchase on eBay.

The Problem

I tried installing Piano Discovery System (PDS) version 3.0 on Windows XP Home, and found that the music notes did not display properly.

I did a search on the internet and found that this was an issue logged since November of 2002.

The Fix

After many late nights, and trying various things, I finally came up with a Piano Discovery System Fix that makes it so that Piano Discovery System (PDS) version 3.0 will work on post-Windows 95 Windows operating systems.

Many people have downloaded this fix. Here’s what a few people have said:

— “The installation was simple and now I can see the notation! Thanks for providing an update for PDS to support Windows XP.”

— “The patch worked great! Thank you.”

Here is a review that was written up about the fix:

How to Install

First, install the Piano Discovery System (PDS) software, which is NOT supplied with the Piano Discovery System Fix. This fix assumes you already have purchased and installed the Piano Discovery System software (which was available for purchase on eBay, last time I checked). This fix was developed for PDS version 3.0, though if the same issue is found in other versions, this fix should make the notes display properly in these other versions as well.

System

Second, install the FIX, which is about 300 k in size. When you make your $9.99 payment, you should receive an email with a download link for the software. Download it and make a backup copy. Then open up the fix, and a wizard will step you through the simple installation. There may be a delay in the email, but if after 24 hours you have still not received it, contact MediaWink–see navigation bar on the left.

Follow the wizard installation instructions on the screen to install the fix. Note that you need to install the fix in the same directory as you installed the Piano Discovery System in. By default, the fix uses the same default directory as the Piano Discovery System used. In most cases, you can just press Next> and do not need to change the directory. If this directory is incorrect, you will be prompted for the correct directory. If you are unsure of the directory, you can either search for the directory of Piano Discovery System, or you can uninstall and re-install Piano Discovery System so that you will know where it was installed to, and then run the fix. Note that in most cases this should not be an issue, and you can go with the default install location.

After the wizard is finished, you should be able to run Piano Discovery System on post-Windows 95 operating systems! If for any reason you need to uninstall this fix, you can remove the fix, and restore Piano Discovery System to its original configuration by removing the “Piano Discovery System FIX” entry in the Add/Remove Programs section of the Control Panel, accessible from the start menu.

The First Piano That Teaches You How to Play It!

The Miracle Piano Teaching System is computer software that you interact with through the included MIDI musical keyboard. It was released in 1990 by The Software Toolworks, Inc. The software includes a range of songs and progresses from beginner to intermediate, accessing you on your pitch and rhythm accuracy as received from the keyboard. Within each lesson are minigames like a duck shooting gallery, robotic factory walk, and parachuting that add an early form of gamification to musical growth. The sheet music is displayed on the screen, and the pages turn on their own with the program’s metronome.

Software

It works with IBM PC, Amiga, Macintosh, Super NES, NES, and the Sega Genesis. Each version comes with anywhere from 40 to 100 songs to learn. There are two song collection packs sold separately which add 40 songs each to the original song set.
